I’m relatively new to painting the figure in oils and until recently had no interest in learning about a more traditional approach to figurative painting.

Recent life drawing practice has opened my curiosity in this area and now I want to develop my painting skills too, mainly for the pure joy of it, but also to know that I can include convincing representational elements in my paintings if they’re called for.

And I’m finding it absolutely fascinating! It’s a magical experience to place paint on a 2-D surface in such a way that it creates the appearance of a 3-D figure.

You can see examples of my more abstract work on my website.
